Joaquín Casalduero

Joaquín Casalduero (born April 23, 1903 in Barcelona , † February 22, 1990 in Madrid ) was a Spanish-American poet, Romanist and Hispanist .

life and work

Casalduero studied in Madrid and became a lecturer in Spanish at the Universities of Strasbourg (1925–1927), Marburg (with Leo Spitzer 1927–1929) and Cambridge (1930–1931). Then he went to the United States and taught at various colleges ( Middlebury College , Smith College ), at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (from 1942) and from 1947 until his retirement in 1968 at New York University . Until 1973 he taught at the University of California, San Diego , where he was an honorary doctor.

Joaquín Casalduero was the uncle of Joaquín Gimeno Casalduero .
