Jochen Beekhuis (* 1977 in Leer (East Friesland) ) is a German politician ( non-party , previously SPD ). He has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since November 14, 2017, and as a non-attached MP since his expulsion from the SPD parliamentary group on October 22, 2019 .

Life

Jochen Beekhuis studied political science with a master's degree . Before his election to the Lower Saxony state parliament, he headed the constituency office of the SPD member of the Bundestag Karin Evers-Meyer .

Party and politics

Beekhuis has been a member of the district council in the Aurich district since 2006 and was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there from 2011 to 2019; on February 29, 2020 he resigned from the SPD district parliamentary group. In the state elections in Lower Saxony on October 15, 2017 , he received the direct mandate in state electoral district no.87 (Wittmund / Insel) .

Controversy over alleged chat history

Jochen Beekhuis was also affected in the context of the hacker scandal surrounding the publication of personal data of politicians and celebrities in spring 2019. The correspondence indicated that Beekhuis intrigued against members of his party such as the Wittmund member of the Bundestag Siemtje Möller and the district chairwoman Roswita Mandel. Letters to the editor , drafted beforehand by Beekhuis and intended to raise the mood against Möller and Mandel, were apparently intended to reach the press through third parties. The chat logs allegedly also reveal homophobic and sexist statements, for which Beekhuis has been criticized.

Beekhuis himself stated that he was not familiar with the content and did not want to comment on it. Thereupon the chairwoman of the SPD district Weser-Ems arranged Johanne Modder to a commission of inquiry, which was supposed to clarify the incident.

On October 22, 2019, Beekhuis was expelled from the SPD parliamentary group in Lower Saxony on charges of sexist, homophobic and misanthropic statements in private chats. On September 7, 2019, the District Arbitration Commission of the SPD Weser-Ems decided to exclude him from the party. In her reaction to the decision to exclude the party , Beekhuis' lawyer stated: "The statements attributed to my client come from manipulated data sets and criminal machinations". Beekhuis' objection to the decision of the District Arbitration Commission was rejected by the Federal Arbitration Commission in March 2020.
