Jochen Kretschmann

Jochen Kretschmann (* 1932 in Berlin ) is a German book author.

The retired locomotive driver of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR writes on topics related to the railway . He reports on his own experiences in the driver's cab, especially with steam locomotives, and presents the series he drives.

In 1947 he started as an apprentice at the Deutsche Reichsbahn, after two heart attacks he was retired in 1988. He was encouraged to write by the writer Mikhail Scholochow , whom he met as a member of a delegation in the Soviet Union.

The main subject of his stories are the experiences with colleagues, superiors, soldiers of the Red Army , local functionaries of the SED as well as events on his trips.

Kretschmann's stories are understandable even for non-experts and give an insight into the work at the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

Jochen Kretschmann was also a member of the “Circle of Writing Workers”.
