Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong were a British pop band from London .

Band history

Joseph Bernays was already known as an actor under the pseudonym Joe Van Moyland and appeared as a drummer in the backing band of the girl group The Pipettes . In 2006 he called himself Joe Lean and put together a five-piece band called Joe Lean and the Tantrums and then Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong . They already attracted a lot of attention in 2007 with their debut single Lucio Starts Fires . As a result, they were hired as the opening act for Babyshambles , Kaiser Chiefs and Cansei de Ser Sexy . The BBC predicted their breakthrough for the following year: They ranked 7th in their Sound of 2008 poll .

In March 2008 they actually made it onto the chart with Lonely Buoy , which reached number 43. In the summer they performed at the renowned Glastonbury Festival before their debut album with the band name as the title should appear in early August. It was already available to the music editors and received, among other things, 4 out of 5 points in the NME review . But at the last moment the band withdrew the album because it "doesn't represent their current sound". They started to record the album all over again. They didn't get around to completing it, however, and in October 2009 their Mercury label lost patience and dropped them. A little later the band broke up again.
