Joe Marler (born July 7, 1990 in Eastbourne ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a pillar for the England national team and the Harlequins .

childhood and education

Marler started rugby at the age of eleven, playing for the local Eastbourne Sharks club. He entered the Harlequins Academy through the Haywards Heath RFC.

Career

society

Marler began his career in the English Premiership in the 2009/10 season for the Harlequins, for which he is active to this day. In 2011 he won the European Challenge Cup with the Quins and the English championship the following year.

National team

Marler made his debut for England in June 2012 against South Africa . At the Six Nations 2016 he won the Grand Slam with England. In 2017 he was nominated for the British and Irish Lions , but did not appear in the test series against New Zealand . In 2018 he announced his retirement from the national team, but returned to the squad in summer 2019 and was nominated for the World Cup . He was part of the English squad back in 2015 .
