Glunz & Jensen is a Danish mechanical engineering company that builds platesetters for printing plates , as well as offset plate developing machines that are required in prepress . The machines built are mainly used to expose and develop printing plates for offset and flexographic printing .

history

The company was founded in 1973 by the Hamburg native Peter Glunz and the Dane Bjarne Jensen. Both had previously met at their old employer, Hans Lüth A / S, a manufacturer of film developing machines. Peter Glunz previously worked as a repro photographer for Axel Springer in Hamburg. The company was founded in 1973 fell into a period in which the printing industry from traditional high-pressure process in the lithographic printing - in particular the offset printing - Ground surrounded. With this, the old lead letters with a raised typeface were also scrapped in favor of modern printing plates. The two founders, Glunz and Jensen, held 45% of the company's shares, while their lawyer, Gorm Ladefoged, held the remaining 10%. One of the reasons for Ladefoged's inclusion in the company was that the chosen legal form required at least three shareholders in order to be able to found a company under her. The aim of founding Glunz & Jensen was to develop its own development machine, which should be able to be produced with significantly lower manufacturing costs than the models of their former employer. The development of a new model took a few months and resulted in the construction of a development machine whose manufacturing costs were a third of those of competing machines. These savings were achieved, among other things, by replacing steel tubs and other steel components with components made of polyurethane . In 1980 the company went public.
