Joseph F. "Joe" Sutter (born March 21, 1921 in Seattle , Washington, United States; † August 30, 2016 there ) was an American aerospace engineer .

Joe Sutter, son of Slovenian immigrants, studied aerospace engineering at the University of Washington and then worked for Boeing in Seattle. He was initially responsible for the development and construction of the short-haul jets Boeing 727 and Boeing 737 . a. developed the suspension of the engines on the wings . In 1965 he became chief developer for the new Boeing 747 jumbo jet wide-body aircraft .
