Joel Dorn
Joel Dorn (* 7. April 1942 in Yeadon , Pennsylvania ; † 17th December 2007 in New York City ) was an American jazz - and R & B - music producer and record label founder .
life and work
Joel Dorn worked for Atlantic Records between 1967 and 1974 , for which he produced 15 albums by jazz musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk and 32 jazz albums ; Label M and Hyena Records are labels that he founded. He called himself "The Masked Announcer" ( the masked announcer ).
Joel Dorn won several Grammy Awards , including:
- " The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face " by Roberta Flack , 1972 record of the year.
- " Killing Me Softly With His Song " by Roberta Flack, 1974 record of the year.
As on his Hyena Records label , he previously released recordings by successful jazz musicians such as Kenny Barron , Bobby Hutcherson , Mulgrew Miller and many others.
Dorn died of a heart attack. He leaves three sons. His son Adam Dorn, known under the pseudonym Mocean Worker , works as a jazz musician and producer.
