Joep Franssens (born January 13, 1955 in Groningen , Netherlands ) is a Dutch composer .

Life

Franssens studied composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague . In 1982 he continued his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Klaas de Vries .

His music represents a new spirituality with universal expression in the Netherlands. Among the sources of his inspiration are the poet Fernando Pessoa and the philosopher Baruch de Spinoza .

His compositions are performed worldwide. He has worked with the Swedish Radio Choir, the BBC Singers, the Latvian National Choir, the Finnish Radio Chamber Choir and the Dutch Chamber Choir. The first movement of the Sphärenharmonie cycle was performed by the BBC Singers at the 2003 World Music Days in Maribor , Slovenia, and conducted by Stephen Betteridge. In autumn 2012 this work was performed for the hundredth time by Sinfonia Rotterdam with Conrad van Alphen, the complete cycle in autumn 2014 by the Croatian radio choir of the HRT with its conductor Tonči Bilić.
