history

Generation of founders

In 1894, master saddler Johannes Stübben opened a factory in Krefeld and was able to establish himself in the city. In 1906, the then German Emperor Wilhelm II introduced the hussars in Krefeld, whose officers were among Stübben's customers.

Second generation

Shortly after the end of the First World War , Stübben celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1919. Carl, the eldest son of the family, joined his father's company in the same year. Carl Stübben, who like his father learned the saddlery trade and gained experience with various saddle makers, was faced with new tasks. Although Krefeld no longer had hussars, equestrian sport gained more and more fans from year to year and soon surpassed driving , which led to a steady increase in the demand for saddles and bridles . In 1921 Carl married his wife Auguste, who took care of the shop even after the birth of their son Werner. She was particularly interested in leather goods such as handbags, suitcases and accessories. On March 15, 1944, Joh's Stübben at Ostwall 185 in Krefeld celebrated its 50th business anniversary.

Third generation

After the end of the Second World War , a complete new beginning was inevitable. The house and workshop were rebuilt and old business connections were re-established. In the middle of this new beginning, the company founder Johannes Stübben died in 1947. After the currency reform in 1948, the supply of materials became easier and so the new building on the Ostwall grew steadily until it was finally completed in August 1949. The company resumed business from then on. Since Werner Stübben's death in 1998, his sons Ralph and Frank Stübben have been running the company independently in the fourth generation.

Internationalization / locations

“Free markets offer growth.” This was the motto under which Werner Stübben moved to Switzerland with his company in 1966. The Stubben Riding Equipment GmbH in Stans , Nidwalden has since logistical center of the company, supplying the world markets, while Joh's Stübben KG is primarily responsible for the German and Dutch markets in Krefeld. In addition, there are a large number of sales companies and franchise partners such as Stübben North America in Troy in Virginia or Stübben Riding Equipment UK & Ireland Ltd. in Corby , Northamptonshire.
