Johan & de Groothandel was a joint music project by the two Dutch radio presenters Ferry de Groot and Peter Koelewijn , which was launched on the occasion of the 1994 World Cup .
background
In the run-up to the World Cup, De Groot had written the title As Dick me hullep nodig heb as a parody of the Dutch soccer player Johan Cruyff . In it, the ex-national player offers the bond coach Dick Advocaat his services for the World Cup tournament. Singer and musician Peter Koelewijn was won over to the Bunny Records record company. Cruyff was imitated by the Utrecht comedian René van de Berg . A Spanish-language version of the song was played for the B-side of the record, in which the text consisted of the instructions for a dishwasher, interspersed with occasional football terms.
The recording was a resounding success in the Netherlands. In early July 1994, the single rose to number 1 on the Dutch charts and stayed there for two weeks.
After this great success, the single Costa Condome was followed in the summer of 1994 , but it fell far short of the sales figures of the debut. In 1996 De Groot and Koelewijn tried to land another soccer hit for the European soccer championship with the title Zomaar in het Buitenland .
