Johan Erik Lindh
Johan Erik Lindh (born October 11, 1793 in Roslagen , † January 21, 1865 in Helsinki ) was a Swedish painter who worked mainly in Finland.
Johan Erik Lindh was the son of a soldier. He studied at the Swedish Art Academy until 1814 and then gained further experience in the workshop of a painter. In 1817 he went to Kokkola and decorated the local courthouse with paintings. In 1827 he went from Turku to Helsinki . During the 1830s he was one of the few artists there who could make a living from their art. His works were exhibited for the first time in 1847.
He created paintings for the churches in Kokkola, Oravais and Tenala . Today he is best known for his portrait paintings. Works by him can be found in the National Museum of Finland, the Helsinki City Art Museum and the Turku History Museum.
