Johan Falkberget
Johan Falkberget (born September 30, 1879 in Røros , † April 5, 1967 ibid) was a Norwegian writer .
He was born Johan Petter Lillebakken on the Falkberget farm in Rugldalen in Røros municipality. In 1893 he took over the farm name as his surname.
From 1891 he worked as a washer on the Christianus Sextus copper ore mine. His first stories appeared in 1902. In 1906 he left the mining industry and became editor of the Nybrott newspaper in Ålesund . In 1909 he moved to Kristiania (now Oslo ) and from 1911 traveled through Europe. In 1922 he returned to his native Rugldalen and built the Ratvolden farm .
In 1923 his book "Den fjerde nattvakt" (German: "The fourth night watch") appeared, which brought his breakthrough as a writer. Other highlights are the “Christianus Sextus” trilogy (German: “In the sign of the hammer”) and the four books in the cycle “Nattens brød” (German: “Bread of the Night”). In these books he describes the history of copper mining in Røros and the living conditions of the miners.
The poet's place of birth and residence in Rugldalen (approx. 15 km north of Røros, 62 ° 43 ′ N , 11 ° 21 ′ E ) is now a museum and can be visited in summer.
