Johan Henrik Freithoff

Johan Henrik Freithoff (* 1713 in Kristiansand , Norway ; † June 24, 1767 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish-Norwegian composer , violinist and civil servant .

Life

He studied violin and composition in Italy during the 1730s, possibly with Giovanni Battista Sammartini . It is certain that he was in the service of the Grand Duke of Tuscany , Gian Gastone de 'Medici , in 1737 , and that he visited Constantinople in October 1742 . In 1742 he returned to Kristiansand before he was employed as court violinist by Christian VI in 1744 . got. In 1746 he got a well-paid job as secretary of the Danish law firm. He died of tuberculosis 21 years later .

Nine chamber music works have been preserved, including two sonatas , one for flute and another for violin.
