from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johan Laurentz Jensen (born March 8, 1800 in Gentofte , † March 26, 1856 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish painter.

Life

Jensen was born in 1800 in the Danish village of Gentofte. In 1814 he became a student at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen. His teachers included the German-Danish painter Claudius Ditlev Fritzsch and Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg , one of the most important Danish painters of the 19th century.

The Danish Crown Prince Frederick awarded Jensen a travel grant in 1822 and sent him to the Porcelain Manufactory Sèvres , Paris, where he learned the technique of porcelain painting. Here, among other things, through contacts with the Flemish flower painters Gérard and Cornelis van Spaendonck, his style of flower bouquets or fruit arrangements arranged in a vase or Attic bowl was shaped.
