The ZIL-MMZ-4505 ( Russian ЗИЛ-ММЗ-4505 ) is a construction dump truck from the Soviet and later Russian manufacturer Mytishchinsky Maschinostroitelny Sawod (MMZ for short) in Mytishchi . It uses the chassis of the ZIL-130 and was the successor to the ZIL-MMZ-555 , which had been built since 1964 . Series production began in 1987 and ended again at the beginning of 1995, because the Sawod imeni Lichatschowa gave up production of the ZIL-130 in 1994 and no more chassis were supplied.

The Mytishchinsky Maschinostroitelny Sawod (translated into German Mytishchin Machine Building ) began manufacturing dump trucks in 1947, and vehicles based on the ZIL-130 were built from 1964. From the 1970s, the model range was expanded, and in the 1980s, a new type of dump body was designed for the dump trucks. In this way, both payload and cargo volume should increase. The prototype construction and testing began in 1983, but due to a lack of production capacities, series production could not start until 1987.

In the meantime, according to the more recent Soviet standards, the ZIL-130 had been renamed to ZIL-431410 , which only resulted in minimal technical changes to the vehicle itself. The chassis that the ZIL-MMZ-4505 uses as a substructure is called ZIL-4957.

The truck was designed for a payload of 6000 kg, 1500 kg more than its predecessor. With this the complete drive train and the driver's cab are identical. The chassis , which is rather untypical for Soviet tippers, does not have a frame that is shortened compared to the standard truck, and the wheelbase is 3800 mm, as with the flatbed truck. MMZ added the complete hydraulic system and its control as well as the subframe and the tipping body attached to it. The latter is no longer half-oval in shape like the ZIL-MMZ-555, but made of straight sheet metal and has a smooth bottom. The loading volume of the skip is relatively small at 3.8 m³, as the truck was designed for construction sites and thus heavy bulk goods such as sand . The payload of six tons is achieved on all roads, even on unpaved roads. This made it one of the medium-weight dump trucks in the Soviet Union in the 1980s.

On December 30, 1994, ZIL ceased production of the ZIL-130 and the ZIL-431410; MMZ continued to assemble vehicles until 1995. The pickup truck was then built in the Uralsky Avtomotorny Zavod (UAmZ for short) until 2010/11, using the cabin of the ZIL-131 . There are also photos of dump trucks with the body of the ZIL-MMZ-4505 and chassis from UAmZ. From 1995 onwards, MMZ produced tippers like the ZIL-MMZ-4508 with the same structure on newer ZIL chassis.

Model variants

There were at least six different versions of the ZIL-MMZ-4505.

  • ZIL-MMZ-4505 - basic version, built from 1987 to 1995.
  • ZIL-MMZ-450501 - Version for particularly northern areas, operational at temperatures down to −60 ° C. Built from 1987 to 1990.
  • ZIL-MMZ-450506 - Export version for countries with temperate climates.
  • ZIL-MMZ-450507 - Export variant for areas with a tropical climate.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45053 - Version for operation with liquefied natural gas , built from 1987 to 1994.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45054 - Model developed in 1983 and mass-produced from 1987 to 1988 with natural gas drive . In contrast to the ZIL-MMZ-45053, the gas is not liquefied. With 400 l of natural gas in eight tanks, the truck has a range of 200 km.
