The ZIL-MMZ-4502 ( Russian ЗИЛ-ММЗ-4502 ) is a construction dump truck from the Soviet and later Russian manufacturer Mytishchinsky Maschinostroitelny Sawod (MMZ for short) in Mytishchi . It uses the chassis of the ZIL-130 and is designed for a payload of around five tons. Series production began at the end of 1975 and ended in 1994, because the Zavod imeni Lichatschowa gave up the production of the ZIL-130 and no more chassis were supplied.

The Mytishchinsky Maschinostroitelny Sawod (translated into German Mytishchin machine building ) began manufacturing dump trucks in 1947. Initially, the vehicles were based on the chassis of the ZIS-5 , later on the ZIS-150 and then on the ZIL-164 . The Zavod imeni Lichatschowa, for its part, switched production to the new ZIL-130 from 1962 , so that a new chassis was also available for the tippers from Mytishchi. Initially, the ZIL-MMZ-555 was produced, followed by the ZIL-MMZ-4502 in the mid-1970s, which was given a four-digit type code in accordance with current Soviet standards .

The truck was designed for a payload of 5000 kg and uses the first generation of the chassis ZIL-130D1-66 . The entire drive train and driver's cab are also from him. The chassis has a shorter wheelbase than the standard truck to make the truck more manoeuvrable. MMZ added the complete hydraulic system and its control as well as the subframe and the tipping body attached to it. The latter is rectangular in shape and welded from sheet steel, it can only be emptied to the rear. At 3.8 cubic meters, the loading volume of the body is relatively small, as the truck was designed for heavy bulk goods such as sand . It can be expanded up to 5.1 cubic meters with additional extension boards. Commercial production began in December 1975, and the truck was built in large series from January 20, 1976.

In April 1977 production was switched to new chassis of the type ZIL-130D1-76 . This step made it possible to increase the payload to 5250 kg. In December 1980 it was increased to 5800 kg, the vehicles built on this level until 1986. They were then replaced by the type ZIL-495810 , which changed little in terms of design, but which was renamed in accordance with current Soviet standards. This substructure was used until the end of production, the payload of this model version is six tons. ZIL ceased production of the ZIL-130 on December 30, 1994, and accordingly no more chassis came to MMZ. From 1987 the ZIL-MMZ-4505 with a new trough was produced as the successor to the construction tipper , later the ZIL-MMZ-4506 based on the more modern ZIL-4331.

At least individual copies of the ZIL-MMZ-4502 came to the German Democratic Republic . Series production of the visually very similar ZIL-MMZ-554 began as early as the 1960s, although it is a three-way tipper and was specially manufactured for agriculture. There are vehicles with the cabin of the ZIL-131 , which were probably built after 1994 by the Uralsky Avtomotorny Zavod (UAmZ for short), as happened with other MMZ models. However, it can also involve subsequent private conversions.

Model variants

There were different versions of the ZIL-MMZ-4502, not all were manufactured in series.

  • ZIL-MMZ-4502 - basic version, built from 1975 to 1994.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45021 - Based on the ZIL-130K chassis, the tipper had the 110 HP engine of the ZIL-157 with six cylinders and 5.55 l displacement. Built from 1975 to 1990.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45022 - Intended for use in combination with trailers up to 8000 kg total weight. Corresponding changes have been made to the brake system and hydraulics compared to the standard vehicles. Built from 1975 to 1988.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45023 - As ZIL-MMZ-45022, but based on the ZIL-138 and therefore suitable for operation with liquid gas . Built from 1977 to 1994.
  • ZIL-MMZ-45024 - Prototype built in 1987 for operation with compressed natural gas , otherwise like the ZIL-MMZ-45022. Not in series.
  • ZIL-MMZ-450241 - As ZIL-MMZ-45022, but specially built for northern areas and ready for use down to −60 ° C. Built from 1987 to 1990.
