Johan Peter Molin
Johan Peter Molin (born March 17, 1814 in Gothenburg , † July 29, 1873 in Ekudden near Vaxholm ) was a Swedish sculptor .
Life
Johan Peter Molin was born on March 17, 1814 in Gothenburg, the son of a baker. According to his parents' ideas, he was supposed to become a businessman, but from 1834 he attended the arts and crafts school in his hometown of Gothenburg. In order to perfect himself as a sculptor, he went to Copenhagen in 1843, where he studied at the local art academy until 1845 .
He died on July 29, 1873 in Ekudden near Vaxholm.
Artistic work
His first major success was his sculpture of Cupid in 1848, which made him so famous in Sweden that he became a professor at the Art Academy in Stockholm and court sculptor in 1853. In addition to being a sculptor, he also worked as a painter and medalist . His statue of King Charles XII is particularly well-known . from 1868.
