Johan Victor Dahlberg

Johan Victor Dahlberg (born September 1, 1915 in Paramaribo , † November 23, 1946 in Nijmegen ) was a Dutch composer .

Life

Johan Victor Dahlberg was born to parents, who were also born in Suriname , Christine Heloïse Dahlberg, née Ringeling and Johan Victor Dahlberg, a Griffier, branch manager at the Cantonal Court in Paramaribo.

His father died before he was born; the mother and the not yet year old son left the Dutch colony in July 1916 and moved to Nijmegen.

His musical talent was recognized early on. At the music school in Nijmegen he had piano, violin and theory lessons.

After high school he moved to Amsterdam with his mother and began studying composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory . His lecturers were Sem Dresden and Hendrik Andriessen .

Works, death

Dahlberg composed a number of chamber and choral music pieces as well as piano and orchestral works, including the symphony macabre (1938-40) , in the short time he had .

During the war years from 1940 to 1945, he had to be treated several times in hospitals for a tuberculosis disease. After he was again admitted to the Sint Maartenskliniek in Nijmegen, he died at the age of 31.
