Johann Adam Goez

Johann Adam Goez (also: Goetz, Götz, Göz ) (born October 17, 1755 in Nuremberg , † January 18, 1840 in Nuremberg) was a German classical philologist , teacher and rector .

Life

He was born the son of Magister Andreas Goez (born November 23, 1698 in Nuremberg; † April 20, 1780), who worked at the St. Sebald Latin School in Nuremberg. His father taught him Latin and Greek from an early age.

In 1774 he started at the University of Altdorf a theology degree and completed this in 1778. Upon his return, he became a teacher at the grammar school where his father worked in Nuremberg. Johann Adam Goez became principal of the school in 1800. When Nuremberg passed to the Crown of Bavaria in 1808, the new government appointed him as a professor of the middle class at the Upper School in Nuremberg. In 1808 Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel became the rector of this grammar school, who reformed the school until he left in 1816. After Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel left for Heidelberg , Johann Adam Goez succeeded him as rector. In 1822 he was released from office for health reasons.

Until his death he occupied himself with literary activities and wrote various works.
