Johann Adam Nodell

Johann Adam Nodell , also Johannes Aram Noodell , Nodel , (* 1754 in Leeuwarden , † January 4, 1814 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch philologist and literary scholar.

Life

At the grammar school under Valentinus Slothouwer (1738-1822) he completed his first studies in the ancient languages. After he began studying at the University of Franeker on June 16, 1770, he became rector of the schools in Dokkum , Kampen , Amersfoort and at the Erasmusgymnasium in Rotterdam. In 1783 he was appointed to succeed his teacher Johannes Schrader (1721–1783) as professor of the Greek language at the University of Franeker . However, he thought it would be better to continue his Rotterdam activity.

A large number of famous personalities from Dutch history emerged from his school. He has also appeared as a Latin poet, whose poems have been published in several Dutch publications. Nodell became a member of the Society of Arts and Sciences in Utrecht on December 1, 1785 and a corresponding member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences on July 5, 1809 .
