from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Anton Friedrich Merz (born August 28, 1803 in Nuremberg ; † 1867 ) was a German businessman.

Merz was the owner of the worsted yarn spinning mill Merz & Co. in Nuremberg . When the factory was no longer able to cope with the enormous demand, he moved it to Augsburg in 1836. The Augsburg worsted spinning mill (AKS) was founded there.

He worried about the social needs of his workers. So he founded a company health insurance fund and a support fund for the disabled. He had a housing estate built in the former worsted quarter .
