Johann Baptist Schlee

Johann Baptist Schlee (also: Jean-Baptiste Schlee ) (* 1897 ; † 1975 ) was a German oboist and music teacher .

life and work

Schlee was solo oboist in the Essen orchestra after the Second World War and taught at the Folkwang Music School in Essen . Among his students was the oboist and orchestra conductor Helmut Winschermann . Schlee introduced the "Indian breathing technique" into oboe playing, which enables an indefinitely long tone that is not interrupted by breathing. In 1949 he played the solo part in the German premiere of Richard Strauss ' 2nd oboe concerto at a factory concert at the Hüls chemical plant .
