Johann Behrendt
Johann Behrendt (born January 18, 1667 in Insterburg ; † April 14, 1737 there ) was a Protestant pastor and translator of church texts into the Lithuanian language .
Life
Behrendt studied theology at the Albertus University in Königsberg . After his ordination in 1692 in the castle church in Königsberg , he first became pastor in Mehlkehmen , then in 1708 in Enzuhnen and in 1711 finally archpriest at the Luther Church in Insterburg. As a connoisseur of the Lithuanian language, he took part in efforts to make the Bible accessible to the Lithuanian-speaking sections of the population in East Prussia and to improve the translations. He also translated hymns into the Lithuanian language.
He was married to Anna Dorothea Blumenau. The couple had a son, Johann Friedrich Behrendt , and a daughter.
