Johann Christian Brandenburg

Johann Christian Brandenburg (born October 1, 1769 in Rostock ; † June 28, 1856 there ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Johann Christian Brandenburg was born the son of a Rostock lawyer. He had a sister and two brothers: Karl Ernst Theodor (1772–1827) was a doctor and Joachim Friedrich Karl (1774–1844) was a lawyer and fourth Rostock mayor. From 1787 Brandenburg studied law first at the University of Rostock and from 1791 at the University of Göttingen . He returned to Rostock via Leipzig and received his doctorate on April 12, 1793, only to open a law practice shortly afterwards. For many years he was the syndic of the honorable first quarter of the Hundred Men College of the Hanseatic City of Rostock, an early representative body of the city's citizens. In 1835 he gave the city of Rostock a modern fire engine from England as a present.

Honors

On the occasion of his 50th doctorate anniversary, Brandenburg was made an honorary citizen of Rostock on April 12, 1843 .
