Johann Christoph Friedrich Neßmann

Johann Christoph Friedrich Neßmann , also Nessmann (born January 22, 1817 in Hamburg ; † March 9, 1884 ibid) was a German goldsmith and statistician .

Life

Neßmann was the owner of a gold and silver goods store in Hamburg. He became a citizen of Hamburg on June 15, 1842 and had been the magistrate since October 29, 1842.

He dealt with economics and statistics. In 1866 Neßmann was entrusted with the organization and management of the newly created Bureau for Tax Statistics , which later became the Hamburg State Statistical Office . After the transformation into the Statistical Bureau , Neßmann became its director in 1872. He held this office until the end of September 1883. Neßmann published several papers on the subject of statistics. For example, the first twelve issues of Statistics des Hamburgisches Staats came mainly from his pen.

Neßmann belonged to the Hamburg Constituent Assembly . From 1859 to 1862 and from 1864 to 1866 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament . From 1860 to 1862 he sat in the citizens' committee , as its representative he was a member of the central election commission for general elections to the citizenship. In addition, he was a tax appraiser from 1861 to 1863 and a member of the tax deputation from 1864 to 1866.

Shortly after he retired in October 1883, Neßmann died in March 1884 of the consequences of chronic rheumatoid arthritis.
