Johann Christoph II von Degenfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Christoph II von Degenfeld († 1680 ) was the landlord of Neuhaus and Eulenhof , Ehrstädt and Waibstadt and co-lord of Hohen-Eybach and Dürnau .

Life

He was a son of Christoph Jacob von Degenfeld († 1646) from his first marriage to Anna Margaretha von Helmstatt († 1631). He and his two brothers Pleikard Christoph and Christoph Martin were minors when their father died. Johann Konrad von Helmstatt and Philipp Ludwig von Neipperg were appointed as guardians, and on December 7, 1646 they applied to the Duke of Württemberg to be enfeoffed with Neuhaus Castle and the Württemberg half of Ehrstädt. After Johann Christoph came of age, he received the fief in 1656 personally. In 1660, he authorized his former guardian Johann Konrad von Helmstatt to receive the Worms fiefdom from the other half of Ehrstadt. While he was taking over the fief and property succession of his father, his brothers oriented themselves towards military careers in Italy.

The village of Ehrstädt was at times completely depopulated during the Thirty Years' War , so that one of Johann Christoph II's primary tasks was the repopulation of the place. Presumably, he benefited from the resettlement measures in the neighboring Electoral Palatinate , which brought a large number of settlers from Switzerland, France and the Netherlands to the Kraichgau . Resettlement was not easy, however, especially since Ehrstädt and the surrounding towns had to suffer again during the Dutch War , especially in the area around the Battle of Sinsheim in 1674, from billeting and troop movements.

Johann Christoph's Worms fiefdom was confirmed in 1670 to his authorized representative Jakob Friedrich von Eltz. His Württemberg fiefdom was confirmed in 1674 by the new Württemberg Duke Wilhelm Ludwig and, after his death in 1678, again by the administrator Friedrich Karl .

In the spring of 1680 Johann Christoph II died and was buried in the castle church of Neuhaus.

family

He was married to Veronica Benigna von Dachenhausen since 1653. There is no clear information about the exact number of offspring and their year of birth. A total of five descendants are known to have come to life:

  • Christoph Friedrich I. (1655 / 60–1705) ∞ Maria Magdalena von Neipperg († 1728)
  • Eberhard Friedrich († 1681/82)
  • Ferdinand Friedrich I. (1661–1717) ∞ Maria Philippine Dorothea von Helmstatt († around 1706), Maria Magdalena von Stetten
  • Luisa Sophia († after 1730)
  • Charlotte Maria (1680-1730)

The year of birth of the daughter Charlotte Maria results from her death entry in the church book of Staden from 1730. However, it is regarded as doubtful, since she must have been a daughter born very late.

Johann Gottfried Biedermann names another five children who died early in one of his genealogies : Maximilian August, Johann Christoph III., Johann Christoph IV., Juliana Veronica and Charlotta Benigna.
