Johann Engelbert Bergmann (* 1758 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † June 3, 1821 there ) was Mayor of Elberfeld.

Bergmann was born as the son of the merchant and mayor of 1758 Johann Kaspar Bergmann (1720–1778) and his wife Margareta Katharina Rübel (1734–1805). He was baptized on February 24, 1758. He married Maria Gertrud Sombart (1764–1836) in 1780, with whom he had eleven children.

Like his father, Bergmann started out as a merchant in Elberfeld and became a member of the council in 1788, and a common man the following year. He became mayor in 1790 and city judge the following year. Four years later he became a council relative for another year.
