Johann Kaspar Bergmann

Johann Kaspar Bergmann (* 1720 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † September 21, 1778 ibid) was Mayor of Elberfeld.

Bergmann came from a family from Barmen, only his father came to Elberfeld, but had not yet accepted citizenship. Kaspar Bergmann (1687–1727) died early and his wife Maria Katharina Braus (1690–1758) got married again afterwards. Johann Kaspar Bergmann was born in Elberfeld and started out as a businessman. He married Anna Maria Plücker (1722–1754) on August 22, 1749, with whom he had three children, two of whom died early. He was accepted as a citizen in Elberfeld on February 16, 1750 and worked as a Winkelier. On December 21, 1754 he married Maria Katharina Plücker (1724–1756), a sister of the mayor of 1774 and 1781, Johannes Plücker , who died a few days after their first child together, which also did not survive.

Bergmann's third wife Margareta Katharina Rübel (1734–1805), whom he married on May 25, 1757 in Barmen, bore him six children, three of whom grew up. Including a daughter and two sons, both of whom became councilors. The oldest, Johann Engelbert Bergmann (1758–1821), was even 1790 mayor of Elberfeld.

Bergmann himself was proposed as mayor for the only time in 1758 and was also elected to this office. In the following year he became city judge and in 1764 and 1768 he was a councilor of Elberfeld.
