Werner de Weerth (born June 11, 1741 in Elberfeld (today a district of Wuppertal ); † November 8, 1799 ibid) was a German politician and mayor of the then independent city of Elberfeld for three legislative periods .
Live and act
De Weerth was born as the son of the former Elberfeld mayor Peter de Weerth (1694–1763) and his wife Anna Christina Wichelhausen (1709–1751). Like his father, he began as a merchant in Elberfeld and married Johanna Charlotta von Carnap (1744–1768) on December 15, 1766, her son was Peter de Weerth (1767–1855). After the death of his wife, who died three days after the birth of their son, Werner de Weerth married again in 1769. This time he married Susanna Maria Wilhelmina Siebel (1750–1784), with whom he had five other children, none of whom came out of toddlerhood.
Werner de Weerth was a businessman and ran a company which he united after the marriage of his sister Anna Maria de Weerth (1735–1781) with Reinhard Noot (1726–1809), the mayor of 1764, to form the company "de Weerth & Noot". He was elected councilor for the first time in 1767 and remained so until 1769. In 1770 he was elected mayor for the first time and the following year he was appointed city judge . From 1772 he was again a council member and this time remained so until 1778. Then he was again proposed and re-elected mayor. After he had been city judge again in 1780, he was again a councilor from 1781 to 1788. In 1789 he was again, for the third time, mayor and the following year again city judge. After that he was a member of the council in Elberfeld until 1794. Only then did he end his almost thirty-year political career.
