Heinz Haferkamp

Heinrich Dietrich "Heinz" Haferkamp (* thirtieth January 1933 in Duisburg-Meiderich ; † 14. July 2019 ) was a German Mechanical Engineering - Engineering and professor of materials science at the University of Hanover .

Life

After Haferkamp at the Technische Hochschule Hannover had studied engineering, he was 1963 with the dissertation to aging behavior of glass fiber reinforced plastics for Dr.-Ing. PhD . His habilitation followed three years later . From 1966 to 1969 he took over the management of the research institute of Luitpoldhütte  AG in the Upper Palatinate . From there he moved to Salzgitter AG as director of the research and development department , where he stayed until 1972.

In 1972 he received a call from the University of Hanover as adjunct professor and in 1981 became full professor for materials science. As director of the institute, he founded the Laser Center Hannover (LZH) with Herbert Welling and Hans Kurt Tönshoff in 1986 and was a member of its board until 2010. In 2001 he retired .

Act

Haferkamp was very active as a driving force at the interface between science and business. He was intensely committed to the establishment of the Hanover Production Technology Center , which opened in 2004 , in which the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hanover cooperates with companies, and for the mechanical engineering campus in Garbsen, which went into operation in 2019.

He initiated and maintained collaborations with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the Medical University of Hannover ; In this context he also helped pave the way for the establishment of the Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Technology , Implant Research and Development (NIFE).

Among other things, Haferkamp was a member of the Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG until May 2008 . He was involved in the board of the Freundeskreis Garbsen e. V. , which awards the ring of honor to the city of Garbsen.

As part of a plagiarism affair at the LZH involving Klaus Goehrmann , it was reported that he had provided series of measurements by two researchers as the basis for his dissertation and had acted as a second reviewer at the same time.
