Johann Ernst Daniel Bornschein

Johann Ernst Daniel Bornschein , also: Johann Friedrich Kessler and Christian Friedrich Möller, (born July 20, 1774 in Prettin , † April 1, 1838 in Gera ) was a German playwright and novelist.

Life

Bornschein studied in Leipzig and Wittenberg from 1793 to 1797 and then wrote his first works as an entertainment writer. During this time he worked as a bookseller in Leipzig from 1799 and worked as a proofreader in various printing houses. In 1802 he founded an art shop in Gera, where he was the editor of the local newspaper.

Bornschein emerged as a popular historical writer who dealt primarily with contemporary history. In addition to a biography of Napoleon, there are also numerous plays. Both his comical-satirical and his horror novels met the taste of the "simple" users of the library. However, they could not stand up to the judgment of the critics. As the most fertile among the early robber novel authors, Bornschein created “Antonia della Roccini, the pirate queen”, a female counterpart to Christian August Vulpius ' “Rinaldo Rinaldini, the robber captain”, which is in no way inferior to its role model. He also used the name Johann Friedrich Kessler as a pseudonym .
