Johann Ernst von Klopmann (born May 12, 1725 in Bershof , Kurland , † December 12, 1786 in Mitau ) was the ducal chancellor and court master in the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia .

Life

Johann Ernst of Klopmann was 1759-1762 Assistant Selburgschen Head Team - Court in James City . During his political activities he was one of the so-called "Ernestinians", who were counted among the supporters of Duke Ernst Johann von Biron (1690–1772). From 1763 to 1776 he was ducal chancellor and senior counselor in the Duchy of Courland and Zemgale. After that he was court master from 1776 to 1786 and resided in Mitau. In 1783 he was the ducal representative in the Russian-Courland border commission that met in Riga . Klopmann was awarded the Polish Order of the White Eagle , the Order of Saint Stanislaus and the Russian Order of Saint Anne .

The Baltic noble family Kopmann came from the primeval Westphalian family of the Klopmanns. Since the middle of the 15th century they were vassals of the Teutonic Order in Livonia and in 1620 they received the Courland indigenous population .
