Johann Georg Sckell (gardener)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Georg Sckell (* 1725 in Eisenach ; † 1800 ibid) was a German landscape gardener.

Sckell belonged to the gardener and painter family of the Sckell . Sckell was a student of the court and pleasure gardener Johann Georg Petri , initially a court vegetable gardener in Zweibrücken , from 1767 court gardener in Wilhelmsthal Castle near Eisenach. He made the first drafts for the landscaping of the Wilhelmsthal Palace Park in 1767, but these were not carried out until 1777. Then Sckell was the court gardener in Eisenach, where he also redesigned the landscape. The redesign of the Kartausgarten in Eisenach is due to him. From 1791 he was court gardener for both Eisenach and Wilhelmsthal. He himself was the son of the game master Johann Valentin Sckell . His son Johann Conrad Sckell in turn became court gardener in Belvedere near Weimar .

He is not to be confused with his grandfather Johann Georg Sckell , who was a money collector and civil servant.
