Johann Heinrich Jacob Amberg ( 1756 in Lübeck - after 1816 ) was a German theater actor and comedian .

Life

He already entered the stage in children's roles. He received his actual training from the theater principal Schuch, where he was able to repeatedly expand his talent for comic roles. He wanted to be the head of a theater company at an early age and therefore, barely 20 years old, founded a troupe in Pomerania. He traveled with the same to northern Germany, but could not hold on, so he had to dissolve the company. After he had made himself popular for a few years in larger and smaller theaters as a servant, dumbass and in caricatured games, he was engaged on July 1, 1787 in Berlin. He stayed there until March 31, 1792, in which year he joined the Association of Theater Frankfurt am Main. Here he reached the height of his popularity and he was only allowed to show himself on stage, and he received applause and a hearty laugh. Amberg was a born comedian. His “Peter” in “Human Hatred and Remorse” was presented as an unsurpassable achievement of his time. In 1816 he retired and died a few years later.
