Johann Heinrich Kannegießer
Johann Heinrich Kannegießer (born September 16, 1677 in Brilon ; † August 6, 1748 ibid) was the miner of the Mining Office of the Duchy of Westphalia , trades and mayor of the city of Brilon.
Life
Kannegießer was the eldest son of Jodokus Kannegießer and his wife Gertrud Wichartz. The father died when he was 17 years old. So it fell to him to take care of his five siblings. He married Johanna Maria Joanvars from Schmallenberg on October 5, 1705 in Altenbüren . The couple had nine children of their own and two children from the woman's first marriage. A few years later he had a leading position in Brilon. He was the head of the Brilon Mining Authority, treasurer and aldermen and independent entrepreneur. The hammer journal for 1675–1679 has been preserved.
His ascent was only possible because he had rich and influential ancestors on his mother's side. His mother came from the wealthy Wichartz merchant and ironworking family. His grandfathers Heinrich Wichartz and Johann Koch were among the four richest citizens of Brilon.
Between 1714 and 1746 he was elected to the office of Mayor of Brilon a total of 12 times. He was mentioned in this function in the years 1714, 1719, 1724, 1729, 1732, 1736, 1741 and 1746 in various documents.
The following entry in Kannegiesser's Hütten- und Hammerbuch was received from 1729 : And I had 14 thiet furnace poured , this entry relates to the Bontkirchener Hütte trade. Here he successfully had stoves poured. He had other shares in the Olsberger Hütte, but it was not used for furnace casting. He was also involved in the Hoppecker Hütte , the Bontkirchener Hütte and the Cumiker Hütte. Participations in iron mines are proven. He had the pig iron obtained further processed in his own hammer mills.
Grave slab
In the tower of the Provost Church of St. Petrus and Andreas in Brilon, a cast-iron grave slab for jug makers has been preserved; it contains some data from his life: Stand still, hiker, look and read! Here lies a man who always stood upright during his lifetime, namely Joannes Henricus Kannegießer. He stood by God as a good and faithful Christian for 73 years. He served the Archbishop and Elector of Cologne as mountain master for 45 years and eleven times as elected mayor of the city of Brilon. At the electoral court in Brilon, he worked for many years as chairman of the lay judges. He was married to Johanna Maria Johanvars for 45 years and through them the father of eleven children. All of a sudden he fell because he had been stretched out from death, but still with all the sacraments of the Church, strengthened according to custom, on August 6th, 1748. Sorrowfully missed by everyone, he now lies here so that he may rise again more gloriously after the end of time . His children, who erected this monument, ask that you wanderer pray devoutly for his soul. So say: May he rest in holy peace! Amen!
