Johann Heinrich Theodor Claussen

Johann Heinrich Theodor Claussen (born August 21, 1825 in Bremen ; † January 13, 1908 in Bremen) was a Bremen businessman as well as a politician and president of the Bremen citizenship .

biography

After completing his commercial apprenticeship in Bremen, Claussen expanded his knowledge through professional stays in Havana and New York . In 1862 he became a partner in the shipping company and import business Albers & Claussen in Bremen . Since 1867 he was a member of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce and in 1873 its President . He became a member of the Bremen citizenship and was vice-president from 1875 and president of the citizenship from 1876 to 1900. As a member of the German National Association and as a co-founder of the Reich Association for the Reichstag constituency of Bremen - he was chairman there until 1893 - he belonged to the city's national and liberal political currents. He was chairman of the supervisory board of the Bremer Lagerhausgesellschaft ( BLG ) and state commissioner at the Bremen stock exchange ; he was also active on the business committee of the monument committee.

Honors

  • In 1900 Claussen was the ninth citizen to receive the Bremen Medal of Honor in gold .
  • The Claußenstrasse in Bremen- Schwachhausen was named after him in 1914.
