Johann Heinrich Wiese (baptized June 27, 1748 in Leipzig ; † 1803 there ) was a German painter , draftsman and engraver .

Life

Johann Heinrich Wiese was baptized on June 27, 1748 in Leipzig as the son of a master tailor. He was a student of Johann Friedrich Ludwig Oeser (1751–1787), the son of Adam Friedrich Oeser, and followed him in 1774 as a substitute teacher and in 1787 as a successor at the Leipzig Drawing, Mahleren and Architecture Academie , the Academy of Arts in Dresden was subordinate. Johann Heinrich Wiese switched to history and portrait painting in oil and pastel. In addition, he worked as a respected miniature painter, draftsman and engraver. His work, especially the pastel works, are influenced by French in the style of François Boucher . Johann Heinrich Wiese was repeatedly involved in the exhibitions of the Dresden Academy and the Leipzig Easter Fair. As occasionally reported, he did not hold an independent management position at the academy. According to the sources, Johann Heinrich Wiese died in Leipzig in 1803. In the Saxon court calendars from 1810 to 1812, however, he is listed as a sub-teacher. In 1813 he was listed as a junior teacher and emeritus at the Leipzig Academy. This arouses doubts about the date of death 1803, which first appeared in a footnote in Füßli's general artist lexicon in 1816.
