Johann Herkules Haid

Johann Herkules Haid (born December 26, 1738 in Ulm ; † August 23, 1788 there ) was a grammar school professor in Ulm, and a writer of regional studies and economics.

Life

As a high school professor in Ulm, Johann Herkules Haid wrote numerous articles on local history and economics. His most important and much-cited work to this day is the more than 700-page book “Ulm with its territories” from 1786, which contains detailed and descriptive treatises on the inhabitants, the history, geography and natural features of the city of Ulm and its surroundings. It was reissued in 1984 as a two-volume limited facsimile edition with 800 numbered copies.

Johann Herkules Haid was only 49 years old. He died a few months before he would turn 50 in August 1788 in Ulm. The Ulm City Archives keep a small legacy of Haid.
