Johann I (Breslau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann I († 1072 ) was Bishop of Breslau .

After the death of Wroclaw Bishop Hieronymus , John I became his successor. Nothing is known about his origins and his episcopal work.

Presumably he consecrated the cathedral, which was completed in 1069, the construction of which began in 1051 under Bishop Hieronymus and which is therefore also known as Jerome Cathedral.

Note : After the diocese of Breslau, founded in 1000, went under in the 1030s, memories of the early years and the then incumbent first bishop Johannes were also lost. Therefore this was not taken into account later when counting or numbering the eponymous bishops.
