Jerome (Wroclaw)
Hieronymus († 1062 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Breslau .
What is known
After the diocese of Wroclaw, founded in 1000, perished around 1030, presumably as a result of a pagan popular uprising, a bishop Jerome is attested for 1051. In the lists of bishops for Wroclaw he is given for the period from 1046 to 1062. It is believed that he was only able to take his bishopric in Wroclaw around 1050.
Since Silesia was still a mission country at that time, the diocese of Breslau still lacked connections to the general church. There were few churches during his tenure. They are proven for Breslau , Liegnitz , Glogau , Teschen , Beuthen , Tost and Ratibor . The church, built in wood on the site of today's cathedral between 1051 and 1069, is also known as St. Jerome's Cathedral .
