Johann I. (Osnabrück)
Johann I († July 13, 1110 in Iburg Monastery ) was Bishop of Osnabrück from 1101 to 1110 .
Life
Johann's origin is not exactly known. He was sponsored by the former bishop Benno II . After the death of Wicho II , he was elected Bishop of Osnabrück. During the lifetime of its predecessor, Osnabrück Cathedral was destroyed by fire in 1100. Construction of the building began under Johann. After six years the building was finished to the point that services could be held again in the cathedral. Johann I also had the relics of the cathedral brought back to Osnabrück from Iburg Abbey. He himself resided in Iburg and made various donations to the monastery. He was a supporter of the latter in the dispute between Henry IV and Henry V. In 1107 it is attested at the imperial court in Mainz . Although he wanted to be buried in Iburg Abbey, Johann was buried in Osnabrück Cathedral.
