Johann Jakob Martin

Johann Jakob Martin (born April 7, 1790 in Frenkendorf , † April 13, 1858 in Sissach ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Martin was a trained tradesman and in 1831 a Basel councilor and until 1832 a court clerk . After founding the canton of Basel-Landschaft , he and his brothers Johannes Martin and Heinrich actively participated in the direct democratic opposition to the new leadership elite.

Martin was in 1837 and 1841-1851 District , in the years 1838 and 1850 Constitutional Council , in 1838, Chief Justice and 1838-1840 Councilor . He had to leave the government because his family was involved in the so-called communal yoggle coup, an uprising against the cantonal authorities. In 1851 he became district court president in Sissach .
