Johann Michael Schmidt
The Protestant theologian Johann Michael Schmidt (* 1934 in the Altona district , now Hamburg ) is professor at the Institute for Protestant Theology (Philosophical Faculty) of the University of Cologne (Emeritus). His main research areas were biblical theology and hermeneutics in the context of Christian-Jewish dialogue and the relationship between the Church and Israel; to the St. Matthew Passion by JS Bach .
Life
Johann Michael Schmidt studied Protestant theology in Hamburg and Heidelberg . In 1963 the doctorate to Dr. theol. in Hamburg with a thesis on Aaron and Mose and in 1968 the habilitation also in Hamburg with a thesis on The Jewish Apocalyptic . From 1961 to 1968 he was a research assistant at the Old Testament seminar at the University of Hamburg . 1968 to 1970 he took over a professorship (Old Testament) at the University of Göttingen . In 1970 he was appointed to the chair for Protestant theology and its didactics at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland, Department of Neuss , and in 1980 he was appointed to the University of Cologne, Faculty of Education, until he retired in 1999.
