politics

At the end of the 1970s, Padutsch joined the Salzburg citizens' list , the first (bourgeois) green opposition movement with major electoral successes in Austria. Padutsch has been a member of the municipal council of the provincial capital Salzburg since 1982 and club chairman since 1987. Since 1992 he has also been a member of the city government, namely as deputy mayor with the areas of urban planning and transport (until 1999), as a city councilor from 1999 as city councilor for the areas of urban planning, transport and the environment and from 2004 for the area of spatial planning and building authority. In 1997 there was an open conflict with the "founding father" of the Greens in Salzburg, Herbert Fux . In the course of his work as head of the spatial planning building authority, Padutsch distinguished himself as a "future-oriented" advocate of larger and smaller construction projects and came under pressure in the course of the "City Life" project at Rehrlplatz, with the anchoring of the "Declaration of Protected Grassland" in the spatial development concept ( REK 2007) of the city, however, he achieved a milestone in the preservation of the formative cultural and green landscapes.

In June 2018 Martina Berthold was elected as his successor as chairwoman of the Salzburg citizens' list.
