Johann Pfeffer (sculptor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Pfeffer († after 1676 ) was a German sculptor in the Duchy of Prussia .

Life

He was only mentioned in 1669 as Joh. Pfeffer , who delivered sculptures for the residential gate and the castle bridge in Königsberg . In 1676 the altarpiece in the church in Kumehnen was made by a sculptor from Nahmens Pfeffer . In art history, it is believed that they were the same person. In a similar style, numerous wood carvings were made in churches in the area.

Friedrich Pfeffer could be his son. He worked in Goldap and probably created the altar and pulpit in 1700, as well as other stylistically similar works.

In all of the churches mentioned, the interior has disappeared today, but it has not yet been determined whether individual remains have been preserved in other places.
