Johann Rockenschaub

Johann Rockenschaub (born June 25, 1886 in Kaltenberg ; † May 11, 1968 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CS / ÖVP ) as well as a farmer and innkeeper. From 1925 to 1938 and from 1945 to 1955 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and long-time mayor of Kaltenberg.

education and profession

Rockenschraub completed his school days and then did his military service with Infantry Regiment No. 14 . As the only son of his parents, however, he was put back in the reserve. When the First World War broke out in 1914, however, Rockenschaub immediately had to go to the Eastern Front. In 1917 he was transferred to the mountain artillery, where he was transferred to the Italian front with an Egerland regiment. In 1925 he took over his parents' business, a farm with an inn, which he subsequently ran.

Politics and functions

After his return from the First World War, Rockenschau was elected to the municipal council in 1919 and, after the municipality had become independent, took over the office of mayor of Kaltenberg in 1921. He was also a founding member of the Upper Austrian Farmers 'Union and was chairman of the farmers' union in the Unterweißbach judicial district between 1926 and 1938 and from 1945 to 1965 . He represented the Christian Social Party from July 2, 1925 in the Upper Austrian state parliament and from November 1, 1934 was the representative of agriculture and forestry in the state parliament. When the National Socialists came to power in 1938, Rockenschaub lost all of his political offices. After the Second World War he worked again as a member of the state parliament between December 13, 1945 and November 18, 1955 and was also mayor of Kaltenberg again from 1945 to 1967.

He was also involved as chairman of the supervisory board of Raiffeisen-Zentralkasse Oberösterreich, was a member of the regional farmers' council for Upper Austria, a member of the Freistadt district school council, councilor of the Chamber of Agriculture and deputy chairman of the agricultural and forestry social insurance institute.

Private

Rockenschaub was married from 1925, although the marriage remained childless. However, the couple raised two foster children.
