Adam Jake Taggart (born June 2, 1993 in Joondalup City ) is an Australian football player .

Career

Taggart comes from the youth division of ECU Joondalup and made his debut in May 2008 at the age of 14 for the club's first team in the Western Australia Premier League . In August 2008, he completed a trial training session in England at Portsmouth FC with two other Joondalup youngsters, the twins Aryn and Ryan Williams . A little later he was top scorer of the U-15 selection of Western Australia at the national youth championships in Coffs Harbor . In July 2009 a trial training at the local professional club Perth Glory followed and Taggart was finally accepted into the youth team of Perth for the National Youth League for the 2009/10 season . After receiving a two-year scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra , Taggart left western Australia in January 2010, but returned to Perth in December 2010. There he rejoined Perth Glory and received a semi-professional contract, according to which he was still nominally part of the youth team, but trained full-time with the professional team.

The young striker made his A-League debut on January 15, 2011 against Melbourne Heart , and scored his first professional goal in his starting eleven on the penultimate match day of the 2010/11 season in a 2-1 defeat by Gold Coast United . Perth Glory finished the season on the penultimate place in the table and Taggart counted next to Tommy Amphlett and Joshua Risdon to the young hopes of Perth for the following season. In the 2011/12 season , Taggart only played the role as the third striker in the ranking. Behind the most successful scorer in the A-League, Shane Smeltz , and Billy Mehmet , it was only enough to make four short appearances as substitutes during the season. The limited working time was also due to a system change by coach Ian Ferguson , which only offered space for one striker. In the championship play-offs, in which Perth was only defeated in the final Brisbane Roar , Taggart was not used.

Despite his short playing times, Taggart was regularly nominated for Australian junior teams during the season. With the U-20 team , he took part in the qualifying round for the U-19 Asian Football Championship 2012 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia in November 2011 , and with three goals contributed to the group win and the associated reaching the finals. Immediately afterwards he was appointed by Aurelio Vidmar in the U-23 selection for the Olympic qualifiers against Iraq and Uzbekistan, in which he was substituted on.

Despite a contract offer, Taggart decided in March 2012 against an extension of his expiring contract with Perth Glory and instead signed a two-year contract with league competitor Newcastle United Jets , under the head coach Gary van Egmond he had already trained at AIS. Previously, U-23 national coach Vidmar had publicly demanded more time in the A-League from Taggart and indirectly suggested a club change. Taggart wanted to leave his own "comfort zone" with the move from the west to the east of Australia and hopes for more stakes in the young Newcastle team, which in the season break next to Taggart with Mark Birighitti , Craig Goodwin , Scott Neville , Joshua Brillante , Dominik Ritter , James Brown , Mitch Cooper and Bernardo Ribeiro signed numerous players aged 23 or younger.

The attacker had to cancel his participation in the qualifying tournament for the U-22 Asian Cup 2014 , which took place in July 2012, due to an injury after he had been injured a few days earlier in his first appearance for the Jets in the friendly against Broadmeadow Magic . Until his substitution in the middle of the first half, he had contributed to the 3-1 success with two goals. In the early phase of the season, Taggart did not get beyond the role of substitute player because of the commitment of the former England international striker Emile Heskey , but he was appointed to the Australian national team for the first time at the end of November 2012 by national coach Holger Osieck , which was on the occasion of qualifying for the East Asian Cup 2013 composed mainly of players from the A-League. He made his debut against Hong Kong on December 3, and scored his first goals for the national team in an 8-0 win against Taiwan six days later.

In April 2014, Taggart was named the best young player in the A-League.

After playing against the Netherlands and Spain at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , English second division FC Fulham signed him for three years. From September 2015 to January 2016 it was awarded to the Scottish first division club Dundee United . After returning from loan from Scotland in January 2016, his contract with Fulham FC was terminated. He then moved to Australia and signed a contract with Perth Glory . He joined Brisbane Roar in May 2018 and left the club in February 2019.

He has been playing for Suwon Bluewings in South Korea since February 19, 2019 .
