Johann Samuel Ith (born July 11, 1747 in Bern , † October 8, 1813 in Bern) was a Swiss theologian .

Life

Johann Samuel Ith was born in Bern as the son of the coppersmith Johannes Ith and Margaritha Stulz. In 1779 he married Margaretha Walthard , daughter of Professor Johann Rudolf Walthard. After studying theology in Bern, Göttingen and Berlin , he was ordained Verbi divini minister in Bern in 1770 . From 1778 to 1786 he was senior librarian in Bern, from 1781 to 1797 professor of philosophy at the High School in Bern and from 1787 to 1797 at the Political Institute for Future Magistrates in Bern, which he helped initiate. In 1797 he was transferred to Siselen as pastor . From 1799 he was the first dean at the cathedral .
