Johann Schoon
Johann Loets Schoon (born January 26, 1894 in Spetzerfehn , Aurich district , East Friesland , † May 19, 1968 in Sanderbusch , Friesland district ) was an East Frisian writer .
Life
Johann Schoon's father, Loet, was a farmer and inland boatman in Spetzerfehn. Together with his wife Margaretha , he managed the railway and postal agency , looked after the railway bridge and ran an inn. The ancestors can be traced back to the time when the Fehn was founded (1746).
Initially, Schoon was supposed to become a teacher, but had to leave the “ preparatory institute ” in Aurich (preparation for the teachers' seminar ) because he had read “forbidden literature” (“ Sherlock Holmes ”). He later became a postman, after the Second World War he earned his living as a tea seller (brand "Teegefümm"), as an employee of Otto Buurman's High German-Low German dictionary and as the author of a large number of newspaper articles about nature and people in East Frisia.
Schoon was a soldier in both world wars.
From 1920, Schoon published reflections and stories, but above all poems and ballads in local newspapers and local supplements. His decisive creative period fell in the fifties and sixties - until his death he wrote hundreds of texts that appeared in the daily newspapers of his homeland and earned him the reputation of "Hermann Löns von Ostfriesland". Schoon's work includes predominantly High German, but also Low German texts and poetry.
Johann Schoon was the uncle of the Low German poet Greta Schoon .
Appreciation
Schoon received the Freudenthal Prize for Low German Literature in 1966.
